Anaesthesia for Children
General anaesthesia ensures that your child is unconscious and free of pain during their procedure and will have no memory of the procedure. The medication used to start and continue the anaesthetic may be given through mask or drip as an injection.
What to tell your child
Parents have an important role in preparing children to make their visit to the hospital as positive as possible. We believe that children should be told as much as possible about what is going to happen to them in a non-threatening way.

Even if you are not having a general anaesthetic or sedation, you will still be asked to follow these instructions. This is because a general anaesthetic may rarely be needed unexpectedly, and you need to be prepared.
We are fully qualified doctors with years of training exclusively in the practice of anaesthesia, intensive care and pain management, resuscitation and advanced life support.
